What was your focus at Syracuse University and what are you doing now?
I entered Syracuse University in the Fall of 1986 as a Civil Engineering major, and I quickly learned that engineering was not the path for me. Dr. Mandel, College of Engineering, helped me to figure out the best path based on my interests, and I changed my major to Economics with a minor in Sociology. I have worked in Human Resources for over 25 years, and my last position was Vice President of Human Resources for a healthcare organization. I also just completed a children’s book that will be out in the Fall.
What is your favorite SU memory?
I am not sure if I can choose just one favorite memory; I have so many! From spending time with friends, to hearing phenomenal speakers, to participating in lively class discussions, to receiving guidance and support from awesome instructors, to singing in the gospel choir (BCCE), to completing off-campus community service (Bishop Foery Foundation), to working for campus Security, and the list goes on. I absolutely loved my SU experience!
Why is it important to give back to Syracuse University?
It is important for me to give back to Syracuse University because I gained so much from the university, and I want to play a part in the university’s ability to continue to provide high-quality educational experiences to the student population. Also, there are students who attend SU through scholarship funds and I appreciate the opportunity to help those who might not otherwise be able to afford the tuition. Lastly, while I do not give to get, I find that the more I give, the more I receive. God continually blesses me, and I stay in the universal flow by giving freely.
What does being a member of The Hill Society (leadership giving) mean to you?
Being a member of the Hill Society is a tremendous honor for me. I am grateful to be able to contribute to the university via my time, talents, and treasures, and to be a part of this group of awesome leaders. Syracuse University has had such a major impact on my life and the person that I have developed into. I continue to benefit from the relationships that I have built with other SU alums and my connection to the campus.
