Burton Blatt Institute develops Employer Resources for incorporating people with disabilities into the workplace

Employer Resources, developed by the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University under its Employer Demand Project, are now available online. The Employer Demand briefs and toolkit are designed to provide employers with resources on incorporating people with disabilities into the workplace and improving employment outcomes for all workers. Exploration of these issues strives to positively influence the employment of people with disabilities. The Demand-Side Employment Placement Models project (2006-2012), funded by the National Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research, is a systematic investigation utilizing scientifically rigorous and evidence-based methods to develop, identify and evaluate employment demand-side models that better understand demand characteristics for qualified workers with disabilities. In the final year of the project, BBI is translating the findings into valid and practical tools for large and small businesses in different market sectors to improve employment outcomes for all workers, including qualified persons with disabilities.

BBI reaches around the globe to advance the civic, economic, and social participation of people with disabilities. BBI builds on the legacy of Burton Blatt, former dean of SU’s School of Education and a pioneering disability rights scholar, to better the lives of people with disabilities. BBI engages in projects on civil and human rights, entrepreneurship and employment, technology access, and economic empowerment. With a staff of more than 50, BBI has offices in Syracuse, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.
