Friday, October 2, 2009
The Whitman School of Management will host a guest lecture by Scott W. Klein ’79, CEO of Idearc Media, on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. in the Lender Auditorium, located on the concourse level of the Whitman School building. The lecture, titled “How to Succeed Despite Career Planning,” is free and open to the public.
Klein joined Idearc from Symphony Technology Group, a private equity investment firm where he was an operating partner. Previously, as president and CEO for four years, he led the successful turnaround and reinvention of Symphony’s flagship acquisition, Information Resources, a global provider of real-time market information solutions, analytics and performance management technology.
Klein was president of the consumer industries, retail and energy business for Electronic Data Systems (EDS). Prior to EDS, he was president of PC Mall, a California-based telesales, catalog and Internet reseller of information technology products. While there, he successfully launched eCOST.com, a premier business-to-business and business-to-consumer online retailer of computer products and consumer electronics. Klein was a co-founder of PrimeSource Building Products and served as chief operating officer while the company grew from $12 million to nearly $1 billion. Klein started his career with Procter & Gamble in brand management and later was director of marketing at PepsiCo.
His lecture is part of the Martin and Phyllis Berman Distinguished Lecture Series, which brings prominent business leaders to Whitman to share their expertise and perspectives with the University community and Central New York executives.
